Annual Fiscal Meeting

The First Congregational Church of Vernon will hold its Annual Fiscal Meeting in Fellowship Hall on January 26, 2025, following the 10 AM Worship Service.

Giving Statements for 2024

Giving statements for 2024 were all sent out. Most of the statements were sent via email as PDF to your email address on file at the church. If you did not get an email, please make sure to check your spam folder.

Members who have asked for paper statements or want their year-end statement mailed should have received them the end of last week or the beginning of this week via US mail. Those without an email address on file should have also gotten their statement by US mail. If you need a paper copy of the year-end statement, please inform Dave Grigg or the church office.

Youth Group Meeting

Youth group will not meet this Sunday. The next meeting will be February 2nd from 5pm-6:30pm. They usually meet on the first and third Sundays of the month. This group welcomes all middle and high school students. To register, click here.

Theology on Tap is Back

Theology on Tap resumes this week on Thursday, January 23rd at 6pm. Join us in the banquet room at Mitchell’s Restaurant for a time of spiritual and theological conversation. We will be discussing Diana Butler Bass’ book, “Grateful.” You do not need to read or prepare anything in advance, just come on by!

Women’s Fellowship: Crafty Wednesday, Jan. 22nd 6:30pm

Wednesday night meetings to prepare for the fair were a huge hit. We've decided to meet once a month, sometimes to craft, other times for some fun fellowship. If you attend this church, you are a member of Women's Fellowship! All are welcome so stop in when you can.

Wed. 1/22 6:30pm- Crafty Wednesday- some sorting, rubber stamping, sharing ideas for the next fair
Wed. 2/12- Chocolate Wednesday- We'll focus on the sweetness of friendship and fellowship and chocolate treats!
Wed. 3/19- Crafty Wednesday- crafts for the next fair- snowmen perhaps?

The Basket group (or basket cases) will be back to assembling gift baskets for sale at the fair. Starting on 1/29 we hope to meet each Wed. morning at 9:30.

Innings and Outings Event-Hands on Drumming…Wednesday, January 29th from 6:30pm-8pm

Join Craig Norton of "Hands on Drumming" for a joyful, musical, danceable community drum circle! We'll play rhythms and instruments from around the world and experience fun improv games. Drum circles are a great way to bring people together to connect, get in touch with your inner musician and have a blast. Bring your own instrument or use one of ours. No experience necessary and all ages are welcome! We have enough drums for up to 30 people.

CPR/AED Class…February 2nd

There will be a CPR/AED class held at the church on February 2nd following worship. The event is free, and you can reach out to Delythe Kracke to sign up or contact the church office. Please sign up ASAP.

Wall Art

It's time to update the holiday art on Sunday, February 2nd. Please submit any themed artwork. All mediums are welcome. Thanks again to all the artists that are sharing their talents with us.

Food Bank & Mission Bins

The Cornerstone and Hockanum Valley food banks are in urgent need for non-perishable food supplies and personal goods. The high cost of these items for our neighbors in need has left our food banks struggling to meet the demand. Along with the need for food and personal goods, Cornerstone is currently seeking large reusable bags for the clients that go shopping at their pantry.

Please drop off goods in the bins in the narthex or the lower-level entryway. Please note that heavy bags should be double bagged. Thanks for your generosity.

Wednesday Walkers…Come Join Us

Six Wednesday Walkers and one little dog braved another cold, windy morning for an invigorating walk on the trail. Bundle up again this Wednesday and experience the fun of an energizing walk as well as the warmth of our group. Nature is beautiful in every season. Meet at 10am at the Church Street parking lot.

Caregiver Support Group

A caregiver support group is being offered to members of our church. We meet every Wednesday in the church library from 1:30pm-3:30pm. This is a lay led group that is very supportive and caring and offers much needed help and encouragement to caregivers. If you are or recently have been a caregiver, consider joining us. Conversations are confidential.

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast meets at 7am on Thursdays at the Vernon Diner.

Line Dancing

During the months of January and February on Friday nights you can stop by Fellowship Hall from 6:30pm-8pm and check out this Beginners Line Dance class. The cost is $2 per class with all money collected going to the United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries.

Monday Morning Bible Study

Monday Morning Bible Study is on a winter break for the months of January and February. Bible study will resume in March.

Grief Support Group

The Grief Support Group continues to meet on Tuesdays at 10am in the Church Library. Anyone who has lost a loved one is invited to attend, and the group is not limited to FCCV members. ALL are welcome and you can bring other family members and/or a friend to the group. Any further questions, please call the FCCV Church office at 860-875-7580.
